Want to start running as a moving mediation, but don’t know where to start? Here are my top recommendations to get you started!

You see all your friends posting about all the 5ks, 10ks, and marathons they are running and want to get in to see what all the fuss is about? However, sometimes starting a new running program can be very overwhelming and you don’t know where to start. I know I had no idea what to do and ended up running in cotton socks for years (#1 rule of running: “cotton is rotton”) which caused bloody blisters on my feet. It would have saved me so much pain if I would have known not to where cotton socks or shirts for that matter, but in the late 90’s this was new info. I also had NO idea “how to run” and felt like everyone was looking at me (Which they weren’t!) because I probably was doing it “wrong”…again I probably wasn’t.

I am going to list the top necessities you need to do when you want to start running.

 

  1. keep it simple.
  2. get fitted for shoes at a speciality running shoe store.
  3. purchase a heart rate monitor. this is like having your own personal training.
  4. buy some running socks.
  5. get some running shorts and dry-fit shirts.
  6. start slow and don’t over do it.

That is it! It’s pretty simple to get out there and get running! Don’t over think it.
