I am beyond thrilled to announce that I was selected as a nuun ambassador for 2017! I have been using their products since I started my marathon running in 2009 and I am proud to represent them.
However, I noticed an interesting thought pattern happen when I received the selection email. It’s interesting how sometimes when I am chosen for something or attain a goal, I notice self-limiting beliefs run through my head.
For instance, when I received this email, I thought, “oh they must have chosen everyone that applied”. I have no reason to believe I’m not qualified to be an ambassador. I have been for running for almost 20 years, am a certified running coach, yoga teacher, life long athlete, and passionate about health and wellness. Yet, a part of me still wonders if I am good enough.
I am sharing this is because I know I am not the only woman who runs this negative loop in my head.
After much inner work, I have come to be familiar with my thought patterns and recognize them as they happen. I am able to stop them in their tracks…hopefully before they can wreck havoc.
If you find yourself having similar thought patterns like this, the first step in changing them, is to simiply be mindful of them in the first place. We are thinking about our thinking, which is called meta-cognition. Once you notice these thought patterns popping up, replace them with a positive one. Perhaps, “I worked hard and performed well.” would be a good one to replace my thought pattern. List reasons of why you deserve whatever you received or achieved and don’t let your self-limiting thought patterns loop in your head.
Pretty soon, this will become habit and you will start to notice when these thought patterns happen. Once you name it, it’s easier to reverse and change.
Notice how different your body feels after replacing your negative loop with a positive loop. I promise you, you will feel a difference. Long term, these positive thought patterns are life changing.
Only you are responsible for how you feel. Not your past, your mom, dad, boss, spouse… only you.
